Specialized Care for Oral Health Professionals
Oral health professionals are prone to develop myofascial pain due to the inherent demands of their jobs, which include repetitive movements and sustained postures. Left untreated, these providers may end up with myofascial pain syndromes that can lead to an inability to perform daily tasks in the patient care setting.
Harriet offers specialized services to prevent and manage risk factors in practitioners:
Onsite Educational Workshop – A one-hour workshop for practitioners and support staff, held at your office location. The workshop includes a review of risk factors that lead to myofascial pain syndromes in your discipline and how to prevent workplace injury within the physical demands of your profession.
Ergonomic and Risk Assessment – A thorough evaluation of your injury risk and suggestions to modify behaviors and body mechanics in order to decrease risk and/or perpetuation of existing injury. The practitioner’s office and treatment space setup will be evaluated onsite. Body mechanics will also be observed and assessed during patient appointments, between patient appointments and during documentation. A postural analysis and breathing assessment is included.
Musculoskeletal Assessment and Treatment – An assessment of myofascial restrictions, trigger points, posture and breathing, followed by treatment of myofascial pain and dysfunction using manual physical therapy techniques. A specialized home stretching and exercise program and maintenance plan of care will be created if needed. Arrangements can be made to provide this assessment and treatment at the practitioner’s office.
